Luxury Charity Ball Photography in King’s Cross London

I was so delighted to be asked to do the charity event photography for The Kay Mason Foundation’s inaugural Hummingbird Ball was held at Goodenough College in King’s Cross, London last month. An elegant black-tie evening bringing together philanthropists, business leaders and high-profile guests in support of educational opportunity for the foundation’s recipients.

As a London event photographer, it was a privilege to document a night that was both visually spectacular and deeply purposeful. The Hummingbird Ball raised nearly £600,000 in support of the Kay Mason Foundation, helping to create pathways for future leaders through access to education.

Charity Event Photography for an Elegant Black-Tie Gala at Goodenough College

Set within one of King’s Cross’ most distinctive historic venues, the evening unfolded with a grand paparazzi entrance, step-and-repeat – which lent itself to some elegant photos. There was a champagne reception, followed by a candlelit dining, auction and heartfelt speeches. The architectural character of Goodenough College provided a refined backdrop for an event that felt both grand and intimate.

Photographing charity galas of this calibre requires discretion and awareness: understanding when to step forward and when to step back; capturing both the scale of the room and the quiet moments between guests. When there are A-list celebrities in the room and everyone wants photos of them it has to be handled with delicacy and balance. As an experienced event photographer, who started my career shooting charity balls, I hopefully got this right!

A smashing review for my photography!

I was however, given an exceptional review by the client, so I think I they were please with the job photography and video 🙂

“Susannah Fields is an exceptional photographer and videographer. She produced superb photos and a showreel for the Kay Mason Foundation Hummingbird Ball.

The event included live performances by the phenomenal Chris Read, a luxury auction and pledging segment, a gourmet dinner, a magic show and an afterparty with Dj Rosey Gold.

The guest list included two members of the royal family, Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons, Tom Hollander, actress and big supporter of the KMF Lesley-Ann Brandt, and some aristocrats such as the Marchioness of Chumley, Marchioness of Normandy, Lord and Lady Stoner and Sir Ben Okri.

Susannah captured the essence and magic of the evening, and our guests are so pleased with the photos we shared with them.

We highly recommend Susannah for any photography and videography for small or big events! She is amazing!”

Step-and-Repeat Photography at the Hummingbird Ball

The evening began with step-and-repeat photography against the beautifully designed Hummingbird Ball backdrop, framed by an abundant floral installation. This arrival moment is always one of my favourites to capture at high-profile charity events. Not only does it offer guests a polished, red-carpet style portrait to mark the occasion, but it also provides valuable visibility for sponsors and supporters, with branding and partner logos prominently displayed. For fundraising galas and corporate charity balls in London, this style of professional event photography serves a dual purpose — creating a premium guest experience while delivering strong visual assets for press, social media and future sponsor engagement.

High-End Charity Event Photography in London

Luxury fundraising events demand more than documentation, they require storytelling. From stage moments and applause-filled speeches to elegant table styling and natural guest interactions, every image contributes to the ongoing legacy of the evening.

It was also a chance for the venue, the stunning Goodenough House, to get some new marketing photos from the ball to promote future events at their venue.

The Hummingbird Ball was accompanied by the song “Hummingbird”, written and performed by Chris Reed, adding a deeply emotive layer to the celebration.

For charities and organisations hosting gala evenings in London, professional event photography plays a vital role — supporting future fundraising campaigns, sponsor relations, press features and social storytelling long after the final toast.

Nearly £600,000 Raised for Educational Opportunity

The success of the evening — raising close to £600,000 — is a testament to the generosity of those in attendance and the clarity of the Foundation’s mission.

It was an honour to capture an event that balanced refinement, impact and genuine purpose so seamlessly. And, as you can see from the photos, the guests had a great time doing so. Win, win.

Event Showreels: How Professional Video Boosts your Event’s and Venue’s Profile and Engagement

Additionally to the photos, which I provided for this charity event, I offered to do a showreel of the evening that would highlight the venue as well as the charity.

I shoot these showreels on a mini 4k camera so that I can still stay focussed (pardon the pun) on my photography at the same time. Using this camera keeps the video side of thinks low-key, unobtrusive and, of course, more affordable that full scale video production.

The result is a light, punchy showreel, which is easily digestible by viewers, perfect for social media, websites and follow-up thank you email to charity supporters and venue clients.
