Hello and thanks for visiting my photography website!
I really look forward to hearing from you and helping you with plans for your photo-shoot.
I’m based in Archway, North London, have an Oyster card, a car and a passport, so location is not so important….what is important is whether I’m the right photographer for your project, portrait or event….
Take a look at some of my galleries (on the left, check the COMMISSIONS tab).
….get in touch, and we can arrange a chat about what you’re looking for. You can Book a phone/virtual meeting: https://calendly.com/photosbysooz/30min and you are also welcome to simply try my phone (07766 241763 – leave a message, or drop me a WhatsApp or text and I’ll call back, if I can’t answer immediately) or send an email with information about your proposed shoot. hello@susannahfields.co.uk.
Then we can discuss ideas, schedules and budgets.
I look forward to starting a conversation with you, Susannah.
p.s. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY – let’s chat! Don’t be scared to tell me your budget – it can help me to offer you the right services and see what I can do for you. If it’s a great cause, or a small business, and I can afford the time, I may even be able to offer special rates, or some extras to help you out. Simply put, don’t be afraid to ask.
p.p.s Usually, my fees start from around £575, and I have set prices for certain things like headshots and events, but more bespoke prices for other shoots, where there can be many variables. My fees are in line with professional photographers in London, based on my experience and skills, I am nether the cheapest, or the most expensive, but, will offer you a 5 star service. Just check out my Google Reviews, if you think I’m telling porkies: Show_Off.
Want to know a bit more about my photography journey, before you engage me for your photography?
Sure………I’ll try not to bore you with tales of solitary hours spent during summer breaks, in my dark-room, over twenty years ago, after travelling and living in Asia for two years; the begging letters I wrote to more experienced photographers who took pity on me and showed me the ropes, or just how much I adored creating pictures that when I first started I spent two years working full time (PA at Cancer Research UK was my day job) and using all my annual leave to shoot weddings, events and businesses.
I did all my editing in my bedroom at mum and step-dads and learned on the job, meticulously reading photography magazines cover to cover (this was pre-You Tube tutorials) and having more experienced lovely, helpful photographers (some of whom I still talk with today), critique my work and teach my to do even better. At one time, my step-dad, a keen amateur photographer took me out and made me shoot on slide film so that I wouldn’t mess up my exposures! A far cry from the touch of a button Apps now!
It was hard being a very young female photographer to be taken seriously. We’d come a long way, from my mum’s generation, but this was the noughties and a female photographer was still a rare thing. My step-dad used to proudly tell shop assistants that I was the professional, not he, when they started directing their photography sales at him. And I can’t tell you how many people thought it was ok to ask me to come shoot in exchange for some drinks for ‘you and your mates’…..Ugh.
But I persevered and came to, not welcome, but accept, the challenges of this, and business in general. From day one when I had my very first paid shoot, (at The Children’s Society, who I moonlighted for as well as my official job as a campaign assistant straight after uni, followed soon after by lots of weddings and events, then charities, public services, and hospitality) I cherished the relationship I had with my clients and loved making them happy with my work and my service. It’s a satisfaction I have never stopped feeling and I have probably worked for around 1000 or so different clients since then…
…..Suffice as to say, after this length of time, I’ve learnt a few things…..and some……I started professionally at the same time that digital took off, but along the way, Social Media has taken the world by storm and now we have A.I.
I fully embrace new technologies and try to keep up with it. As well as digital photography, I now offer 360 Virtual Tours, video & vox pops, moving showreels, social media support, and am currently learning Stop Motion. I can also help you plan and produce your shoots and have handled full production with a few large clients – involving location and model hire, permit arrangements and calls plans and supervising and directing my wider team. I absolutely love supporting clients with my knowledge and expertise. I also enjoy short-from writing and creating copy. This was not written with ChatGPT :).
Maybe you’re interested to know what I do for fun outside of business?
Well, I love partaking in all things London has to offer, from theatre, to festivals, food and drink, and just wandering through our amazing parks and streets. I am also a swing dancer, which is such joy and still, not surprisingly, love to travel. I sometimes even go on dance holidays! Summer Jamboree in Senigallia, in Italy is my favourite.
For more relaxing time, I love to cook and host friends, (try) keep fit (pilates and boxercise are my current favs and I have been doing a daily plank challenge with a friend – my most is 3 mins but that only happens on good days!) and do crafty things. I also love movies and books. Though mainly my head is stuck in photography related reading!
I run a local creatives networking group in Archway, where I live, which I started last year and I try and go to photography and industry events, when time allows. I need to do that more…
I am not just a ‘jobbing’ photographer, I also shoot for pleasure and currently have an epic Vintage Portrait Project (shot over 10 years!), which I am trying to get a book and exhibition for. You can see some of my vintage focussed work on my new Instagram accounts: @vintagelifeinfocus.
What else do you want to know about my Photography Business approach?
I am able to offer you all the photography guidance you need – from planning, advice on briefing, and tips on how to look fabulous for your portrait. My extensive experience means not only do I produce the visual, I can support at all stages of your shoot, including production and branding.
I’m not ‘just a photographer’ – I don’t turn up, take shots, send you pictures, an invoice and wave goodbye; instead, I make sure you have everything from the moment you get in touch, until you have the final images in your hands – digitally speaking.
I’ve heard so many times that photographers should niche down and only shoot one thing, but I have multiple interests and skills. And, yes, if you’ve been honing your craft as long as I have, you get to be pretty good at many different areas. So the services I offer are a wide mix, but I have experience with all of them.
What to expect from me on shoots…
Well, I am definitely a people person. I love to chat, have fun with people and bring my energy to a shoot when the subject in hand permits, but I also know when to be quiet, keep to myself and be discreet and I am dead serious about the job I deliver!
I will always go beyond your expectations, (check out my Google Reviews – Show_Off) and have a head full of ideas if you need to tap into them.
I’m good with young people, and enjoy fun messy child focussed charity shoots as much as the glamour of a fancy hospitality shoot. I have a special skill at seeing your best side and have been told on numerous occasions that the photo I just took of someone is the best they’ve ever had. My directional skills are a strong part of my work. Oh and, despite, the hours clocked doing what I do, my enthusiasm hasn’t ebbed – as someone pointed out to me fairly recently, I really am a bit of a girly photo geek!
